 The Evangelist Calling

Just what is an evangelist and are you called? Chances are you are called to evangelism if you are familiar with Jesus’ ministry and have a burning desire to share the gospel. Not everyone who is “born again” is called. The Holy Spirit will lead and guide you as you mature in your walk with the Lord. The Holy Spirit gives instructions and directions. If you find yourself on the streets ministering to people, this is what an evangelist does.

Take John the Baptist for example. He couldn’t help but compel men and women to repent of their sins and be baptized with water. John’s mission was to inform the people that Jesus Christ, the son of God, would be coming soon. As a result, this qualifies him as an evangelist, in that he spoke of things yet to come. John declared the Lord’s coming and readied the people for salvation.

Five Fold Ministry

Since the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, evangelists such as Billy Graham and Smith Wigglesworth were called to reach the lost and preach the gospel. As a result, they are led by the spirit or Holy Spirit of God like many other evangelists. This is prevalent in the five-fold ministry today. In the Gospel of Luke, the Christian disciples, or the Apostles, traveled abroad to spread the good news. Jesus’ disciples also healed the sick, cast out devils, and raised the dead in His name. They were Godsent.  A sermon audio, or MP3, is a great tool while traveling to healing crusades or tent revivals. They keep us from being distracted and focused on our mission ahead.

Leading Someone to Christ

An Evangelist leads the lost to give their hearts to Jesus. It is something that comes very easy for them. Testifying the love and goodness of Jesus and what He did on Calvary for each and every one of us.

2 Timothy 4:5  But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

What is an Evangelist

What is an evangelist? In a nutshell, it consists of being a doer of the word. Not just a listener or sitter. They understand the importance of bringing the lost to Jesus. The Bible says in

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.

If not for the sacrifice of Evangelists today, there would be many people who would not have received salvation by hearing the word of God and giving their hearts to Jesus. We as Christians are to pray that the Lord would send out the workers into the world and bring in the harvest of souls. A soul is so precious to God, after all, He is our creator.

Famous Evangelists

These world-renowned women and men are prime examples of what is an evangelist. Kathryn Johanna Kuhlman, an American faith healer, and Juanita Bynum, a televangelist. Reinhard Bonnke hails from the UK and travels extensively in Africa. You can actually witness while watching a free Christian movie, an African Pastor being raised from the dead. It was during one of Evangelist Bonnke’s healing crusades.

Seek God in prayer in order to determine if you are called to be an evangelist. Attend your local church on a regular basis or attend home services. Sometimes we have an inclination but need a word or spiritual insight from a more mature Christian. They will help you become spiritually equipped through scripture, hands-on mentoring, and through personal testimony on how to fulfill your calling as an evangelist.

Apostle Sheraton Walls was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. From an early age, he knew that God wanted to use him. It wasn’t until he reached the age of 40 that God would show him. Apostle Sheraton Walls’ ministry began on the streets along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Apostle Walls’ ministry is aptly named, Outside Ministry. His mission was and is to win souls for Jesus Christ.

He was baptized by the fire of the Holy Ghost and has not looked back since. His hunger for God has never diminished, only increased. The saving of souls is first and foremost in his ministry. The Lord has also blessed him with the gift of prophecy and deliverance for the people who want to be set free.

Apostle Walls and his wife lost all material possessions during the storm of Hurricane Katrina. The Lord led them to North Carolina and have created and established an online ministry at KNCB.org. The main purpose is to provide a safe and family Christian environment for people around the world. A place where the unsaved can come to Jesus, get biblical teachings from sermon audios or even old Christian movies that are based on Bible scripture.

Apostle Sheraton Walls and his wife created a network of channels. He understands that reaching people can be done using different streams but delivering the same message. Godsent TV is the epitome of what working in God’s harvest is all about. The videos allow the viewer to experience, first-hand, the love shared and given through his servants throughout the world.

Free Christian movies are available that provide a better understanding of scripture. Especially to those who are new in Christ. 3759Pentecostal Evangelist Smith Wigglesworth Biography

Smith Wigglesworth

Wigglesworth

Smith Wigglesworth was born June 8, 1859, in Menston, Yorkshire England, to John and Martha. As a child, Smith Wigglesworth’s family was very poor. He worked in the fields beside his mother and in factories. By the age of eight, he became a born-again Christian and was baptized in a Baptist church. He would later claim the Pentecostal faith.

As a young man, he was an apprentice to a plumber. His mentor was the one who taught him about Jesus Second Coming. The first person he brought to Christ was his mother. Smith Wigglesworth loved ministering to young people and visiting hospitals. By the age of 20, he moved to Liverpool. The power of God was on him and he won many souls for Jesus. He had a great love for the poor people. At the age of 23, he was led to go back to Bradford where he opened up a plumbing business and spent the rest of his time helping out at the Salvation Army. It was during this time he met his wife Polly who was a preacher there. It was only after he got married that Polly taught Smith Wigglesworth how to read using the bible. They had one daughter and three sons.

Smith Wigglesworth eventually gave up his plumbing trade after preaching became his passion. During the Sunderland Revival, he experienced speaking in tongues after the laying-on of hands by Mary Boddy. He was 40 years old at the time.

Smith Wigglesworth Ministry

He believed that healing was due to one’s faith. Furthermore, he had been healed of appendicitis and refused any medication for kidney stones. There were many reports by people who experienced miraculous healings of cancer which he described as a “living evil spirit.” Also, people were being raised from the dead. He believed that illness was caused by demons. He believed that praying twice for a person was showing unbelief.

There are many references to Smith Wigglesworth still today. Take, for example, Kenneth Copeland, who talks about Smith Wigglesworth in a short video about raising a man from the dead. Also, Creflo Dollar who also uses Smith Wigglesworth’s beliefs and actions to explain scripture to his congregation.

Smith Wigglesworth’s Prophecies

David DuPlessis, whom Smith Wigglesworth met in South Africa in 1936, explains what he said. Speaking directly to David, Smith stated that he had been in Jerusalem long enough and that he was destined to go to the uttermost parts of the world. This sounds like what Jesus told the disciples and can be seen while watching old Christian movies. Smith told him that absolute obedience would come with a cost to share in the greatest wave of revival that has been known in history. Summarized here is the prophecy by Smith Wigglesworth for:

David DuPlessis

‘It will eclipse the present-day, twentieth-century Pentecostal revival that already is a marvel to the world, with its strong opposition from the established church. But the same blessing will become acceptable to the churches and they will go on with this message and this experience beyond what the Pentecostals have achieved. You will live to see this work grow to such dimensions that the Pentecostal movement itself will be a light thing in comparison with what God will do through the old churches. There will be tremendous gatherings of people, unlike anything we’ve seen, and great leaders will change their attitudes and accept not only the message but also the blessing.’

‘The Lord said to me that I am to give you warning that He is going to use you in this movement. You will have a very prominent part.’”

Furthermore, Smith Wigglesworth was a man who devoted his entire life to serving God. His faith never wavered. He has inspired many and his ministry continues today although he passed from this world in March of 1947.
