Joseph – Son of Jacob

Joseph is the eleventh son of Jacob. As you watch the Joseph movie, you will see how God uses him to fulfill the promise of God made to Abraham. Joseph had faith in God to bring the vision to pass. His 10 older brothers hated him because their father favored him more. Joseph was the firstborn son of Jacob’s wife, Rachel, whom he loved very much. Benjamin was Joseph’s younger brother who had been born to Rachael as well. She died giving birth to Benjamin. The sons of Jacob are known as the 12 tribes of Israel.

Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors

Joseph was Jacob’s favorite. He loved them all but Joseph was Rachel’s son. Jacob blessed him with a “coat of many colors.” Rachael had been barren for many years and the Lord blessed her to conceive in her older years. There is really a lot that goes on, too much to put into words, so you will have to watch the movie.  I suggest watching the Jacob movie first to get an even better understanding on who Joseph was.

Joseph’s Dream

According to the bible in Genesis 37:1, Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed. The land of Canaan.

And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

At about the age of 17, Joseph had a dream. The next morning he told it to his father and brothers. He explained that in the dream that they would all “bow down” to him. His brothers hated him even more. After a few days had passed,  Jacob told Joseph to go and see about his brothers who were tending the sheep. So he did. His brothers conspired to get rid of him. To kill him if necessary. After a quick discussion, they decided to sell him into slavery to Midianite traders who were passing by.  The traders were on their way to Egypt and Joseph knew he had to trust in God.

Joseph Goes to Prison

When they arrived in Egypt, Joseph was then sold to a man named Potiphar. He was the Captain of the Palace Guards. Because he knew that God was with Joseph and very wise, he was given charge over all of Potiphar’s house. Potiphar’s wife, as you will see in the Joseph movie, tried to seduce him. It did not work.  She lied on Joseph and he was thrown into prison. Joseph was placed in the same cell with a couple of men that had served Pharaoh. They had been accused of stealing.

It came to pass that both men had dreams. The men asked Joseph to interpret the dreams. Joseph revealed what came to be true. The one that lived was released and given back his position in Pharaoh’s palace. He remembered Joseph and how he interpreted his dream. Pharaoh had dreams and no one could interpret them for him. He was very disturbed by his dreams. As a result, the man suggested that Joseph could interpret the dreams and the guards brought him forth.

Joseph Stays Faithful

Joseph did indeed interpret the dreams. And, in turn, Pharaoh gave Joseph a position in his court, second only to him.  Joseph stayed faithful in order to reach his destiny as you will see. God had something great for Joseph but he had to go through some things before he was ready.  Joseph began to understand forgiveness and the power of peace toward his brothers. God revealed to Joseph that it was intended for good.

Genesis 50:15 – 20 Then his brothers also wept, fell down before him, and said, “We are here as your slaves.”  But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid! Am I in the place of God?  Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to preserve a numerous people, as he is doing today.

Furthermore, it was also God’s plan for His chosen people. Moses, the deliverer in the book of Exodus was born to deliver the people out of Egypt. They had been in bondage for 400 years, God spoke to Abraham about the bondage.

Genesis 15:13 – 14 Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign country. They will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years. But I will execute judgment on the nation that they will serve. Afterward they will come out with many possessions

Watch the Joseph Movie

I hope you have enjoyed my short movie review of one of my favorite and popular Christian movies. There is so much more that happens. Watch the Joseph movie with your family and friends to get a full understanding of how he was truly used by God in a great way. It was for His glory and for His people. The Joseph opens up many great topics for sermon audios for Christian leadership. God has a purpose for all of us.

Would you have been able to go through what Joseph did?  God calls us to go through trials and test. Why? Because our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is our strength, and we can do all things, through Him. Leave a comment below and tell us how you liked the movie.

God bless and enjoy the movie!
