How to Read the Bible

So you want to know how to read or where to start reading the bible? That is a very good question! Through experience as a Christian myself, there are many things to know on how to go about it. Here are a few of my suggestions, especially if you are new in Christ.

Bible Translations

Attending church of the person who has led you to give your heart to Jesus for eternal salvation would be the first step in determining the version of the bible that you would want to purchase. Most churches will teach bible study and preach Christian Sunday sermons from a specific version or translation of the bible such as the King James Version, English Standard Version, Amplified Bible or maybe the New Living Translation. It is important to read and study the word of God with the same translation of the bible. As you mature in the word, then consider purchasing a different study bible that suits your bible study needs.

A great place to begin reading the bible would be scripture given during the sermon given by the Pastor on you first church visit. If you are like me and want more than just the scriptures given during the Sunday service or Wednesday night bible study, then this is how to read the bible. Begin with the first book of the bible, Genesis. Nevertheless, the book of Proverbs is one my favorite, for it is the wisdom of God. He said in his word in

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

How to Read the Bible For All It’s Worth

The bible is a book like no other

Before you begin to read, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and to give you understanding. You will want to read it slowly, absorbing every word that you read. And, don’t try to read the bible in a week. Some churches offer studies on how to read the bible in a year. Reading the bible will take time. You will want to research and cross reference scripture. Also, mediation will give you revelation and more understanding.

Take your time, there is no hurry.  Just be consistent and persistent when it comes to reading your bible daily. As you read, certain scriptures will come to life for you.  Some will relate with circumstances or situations that you or a loved one is going through. You will begin to understand what the scripture is saying through the spirit of revelation. Learning how to read the bible for all it’s worth will increase your faith and give you strength.

Where to Read the Bible Online

The bible is also available online. The Internet is a great place to research the scriptures that are referenced in the bible. People have their own way they prefer when it comes to studying scripture. Some like reading the bible chronologically, the order is which is was written. And some people like to skip around being led by the scriptures and references. There is no wrong way on how to read the bible. Just read your bible daily, be encouraged. Get a full understanding in what God is saying through His words written by His Apostles, prophets and disciples and then delivered by his servants of preachers, teachers and evangelists. You can even listen to sermon audios about the different books in the Bible.

People who are unable to read the bible can watch free Christian movies such as “The Jesus Christ movie,”The Gospel of Luke,” or “The Book of Acts.” Or they can listen to Christian radio on a Christian broadcasting network. It can also be downloaded on an MP 3. The Lord’s Prayer is great in helping you get started with communicating with God. Just be led by the Holy Spirit. He will never guide you wrong.
