“Weeping Prophet” Jeremiah
So who was the Prophet Jeremiah, what was the purpose of his calling from God? Prophet Jeremiah was often called the “Weeping Prophet” because he had so much compassion for the people. The Lord placed a mighty calling on his life and Jeremiah served for 40 years. The Prophet Jeremiah movie shows that he was God sent to the land of Israel. He was sent to the last 2 tribes of Judah and Benjamin and gave the last warning before they would be cast out of the land for their rebellion. Prophet Jeremiah began serving during the reign of King Josiah. Jeremiah was the Prophet who delivered the famous Temple Sermon.
Jeremiah 7: 2-4 2 Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah, you that enter these gates to worship the Lord. 3 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and let me dwell with you[a] in this place. 4 Do not trust in these deceptive words: “This is[b] the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.”
He wasn’t even allowed to marry and have children
Jeremiah the Benjamite
Important to realize, Jeremiah was the son of a priest called Hilkiah who was a Benjamite from the village of Anathoth. During the Prophet Jeremiah movie, you will see how he went through much rejection from the people of Israel and even his own father. He was not even allowed to marry the woman he loved and have children. In addition, God told him that the people would suffer a painful death.
Jeremiah 16:1-4 The Lord spoke his word to me. He said, 2 “Don’t marry! Don’t have any sons or daughters in this place! 3 This is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this place and about the mothers and fathers who have children in this land: 4 They will die horrible deaths. No one will mourn for them or bury them. They will be like manure on the ground. Wars and famines will bring them to an end. Their bodies will be food for birds and animals.
In general, many people today do not understand the loneliness and separation that a person goes through when they are called by God. In other words, Jeremiah went through. Furthermore, he was also considered one of the three major Jewish prophets. Isaiah and Ezekiel were the others.
