Intercessory Prayer Imperative During End Times
From a high position in a Las Vegas hotel this past weekend, a man took the lives of nearly 60 people and injured at least 500 more. This is a horrible tragedy, but it is not something new. This is just one reason why Intercessory prayer is imperative before the second coming of Christ.
Increased evil is one of the main elements of the signs of the end times. The inexplicable tends to compound feelings of rage, anger, mistrust, and doubt in people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. This type of terrible event is tragic because of the loss of life. It’s a stark illustration of what humans are capable of when they are devoid of His love.
The immediate reaction of people who were not involved in the massacre is centered on motives and placing blame. What the shooter did was nothing short of heinous. It only illustrates the natural depravity of the lone individual. In dark times, it is necessary for bystanders to fill spiritual gaps and involve themselves in intercessory prayer. This type of prayer not only recognizes the evil in acts like the one in Las Vegas but honors God by placing His will above the outcome.
Mass shootings and similar crimes are not new in America. From reading history and remembering recent past events, the face of evil is again recognized in this terrible event in Las Vegas. Despite the availability of the 24-hour news feed, most people feel powerless in its wake. Quite the opposite is true.
Praying for Others During End Times
God once said that if His people pray, they will be freed from all types of evil. The Las Vegas massacre is an ideal time for onlookers to rise above common trends. Instead of showing visceral anger, Christians should give this tragedy over to God through prayer. Those called to Intercessory prayer truly have a lot of work ahead of them.
The vast majority of Jesus’ teachings were centered on the recognition of the reality of the enemy’s work in the world and having compassion for others. These are difficult concepts when tragedy creates questions like,
* Has our country finally failed?
* Why would God allow this type of tragedy?
* What good is one prayer against the evil of the world?
The list of Jesus’ miracles ranges from feeding the hungry to rising from the dead. In almost every case, they involved healing. This was not without the sincere prayers of followers and believers. The truth is, God has overcome the world and the horrible things it can produce. No evil on this earth happens, however, without being part of God’s perfect plan for humanity.
As countless people redirect their attention from the media toward higher thoughts, they should remember the Jesus prayer to the Father before the crucifixion. “Not my will, but Your will be done.” Tragedies like the Las Vegas massacre are the cups that we all must bear for being part of a sinful race of beings.
This type of event should bring all Christians to fervent intercessory prayer. The criminal details of this crime are not important. What is important is that all people recognize what is possible in a world that denies the authority of a loving God. Creator of heaven and Earth. They should also recognize that God is willing and capable of healing even the most severe types of grief, fear, and national struggle.
