Like a teacher that gives daily assignments, before Jesus left the earth, He gave you an assignment called “The Great Commission.” As a modern-day disciple, you are to take the Good News of the Gospel “into all the world” by telling others about the life of Jesus, thereby making more disciples. Your main tool coupled with your Christ-like lifestyle is the Bible which you will use to teach about His kingdom thinking and kingdom life principles all wrapped up in His Love. However, on the other hand, there are other tools available.
Today, you can use more than prayer, feet, ships, letters and word of mouth as evangelism tools. Now, you have bigger ships as well as planes. Last but not least, you have the “internet” which allows you to take or send the gospel around the world via television or video on which you will find a lot of movies about Jesus Christ. You can use the “Jesus Christ Movie” as an outreach tool because it’s loaded with Jesus facts which can be found online under “The Jesus Christ Movie” on your computer, or mobile device, anytime or anywhere.
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words. This movie has amazing pictures as well as down-to-earth, everyday life teachings about the life of Christ. It ministers to the heart of the youngest child and to the oldest adult. It can impact the mind of the unlearned and the educated. It has the power to draw the rich and the poor, together. It’s able to bring tears of hope and healing to the hurting, the dying and the hard-hearted, too.
Imagine being on a missions trip in a country where there is a food shortage. Just like in a classroom, before, showing the movie, pass out bread for your students to eat. Then, you can use the bible, as a textbook to teach Jesus facts to those who have never had an encounter with bread about Jesus, as the “Bread of Life.” You can teach them that He is good like the bread they are eating, but better.
Afterwards, you can use parables and scriptures to teach them real “life facts” about Jesus. He is the true living water. This could be the lesson while passing out water in those places to those who may have never had the experience of tasting clean water. In addition, you can use the water to tell them how He changed water into wine. How He can change their lives.
Next, tell them about how much Jesus loves them, and introduce the song “ Yes, Jesus Loves Me.” Referring to the birth, death, burial, and resurrection in the movie, remind them of what Jesus and His Father did to prove their love for them. Tell how the love of Jesus was shown by providing them with the water and the bread.
This film lends itself as a teaching tool to all kinds of activities. They can be used to witness to others about the love of Jesus Christ.
Leave comments, or suggestions about your outreach teaching experience with the “Jesus Movie” and how it impacted you as well as those who were touched by your ministry.
